A Free Planta Alternative for Reminders, a Journal, and a Health Scan

You add a plant to Planta. You do not choose the watering day. The app does. It looks at the plant and writes a schedule, and the notification that follows is an instruction to pour.

The Play Store is blunt about how that goes.

“Especially with succulents, ive lost so many plants because this app makes you over water.”

Dara Arvizu, Google Play, September 2026

A watering reminder is supposed to be yours. You know the pot, the window, and how the soil felt last Thursday. A schedule the app invented, followed because a notification said so, is how a succulent ends up drowned.

That is why we built Sounth. Plant parents were asking for four plain things: a watering reminder, a fertilizing reminder, a care guide, and a journal. Those are the basics of keeping a plant. They kept showing up locked, or buried under ads, or replaced by a day the app had chosen. We built the app we wanted to download. You set the rhythm. The reminder follows it.

You Set the Watering Day

In Sounth, the watering day is a day you pick. Fertilizing too, and any other task that plant needs. Care happens on a different day sometimes. One tap updates the care reminder, so the next one starts from the day you actually did it.

The app does not look at the forecast and rewrite your week. It reminds you to check. The soil under your finger decides whether you pour. A phone cannot see that soil. Why no AI plant watering schedule actually works is the longer version of that argument: the variables that dry a pot are mostly invisible to an app, and a schedule that pretends otherwise is how plants get overwatered.

What Belongs in the Free Plan

Most plant parents need these, so they are in the free plan.

  • Watering, fertilizing, and custom reminders you set yourself.
  • One-tap updates when care happens on a different day and you need to update the care reminder.
  • A houseplant journal, with milestones and photos.
  • A field guide for light, water, toxicity, repotting, feeding, and pruning.
  • A health scan, when a leaf looks wrong.
  • Automatic cloud backup, so the journal is not stuck on one phone.

No ads. The basics of plant care should not be a luxury.

What Sounth Is Not

Sounth is not a plant identification app. Naming an unknown plant from a photo is its own job, and many good apps already do it well. Sounth is for the plant you already know: the reminder, the journal, and the care.

It is not a social app either. There is no feed, no followers, and no performance of plant parenthood. It is meant to be calm, mindful, and quiet to look at. A daily glance at what needs your hand, then you put the phone down.

For People Who Want to Track Hydration

Most plants do fine with a reminder and a finger in the soil. Some plant parents want more than that. They want a sensor in the pot, tracking hydration instead of guessing from the surface.

That is the soil sensor. It reads how wet the soil actually is and can tell you the pot is drying out before the leaves do. The useful part is the alert that arrives when you are not in the app. Sending that alert takes a cloud server we keep running for notifications, so sensor integration is there for people who want it.

If you never connect a sensor, you stay with the free plan: the reminders you set, the journal, the health scan, and cloud backup.
